What I learned From my First Blogger Event

what I learned on my first blogger event - What I learned From my First Blogger Event

I have been blogging (on and off) since 2007 and it is just this year that I have attended my very first ever blogger event. One major reason is because I have kids and going outside by myself is nearly impossible. Another reason is that I tend to be shy to meet other bloggers. I am not a pro despite how old I have been doing this. I am not a good writer. I find it hard to make a blog post consistently because of lack of time. But I know I need this, I need an outlet, something that is not about doing chores or fulfilling small tasks for my clients (I make websites for a living). I need to write and express my thoughts. Hence, I continue to blog.

Face your Fears

Finally I have gathered strength and faced my fear. I joined and actually went to a blogger event. More about the event on this post – click here. Excited and at the same time afraid. I met my online blogger friend Serene of The Super Momma. She is nice and pretty. Talking to her is just the same as with chatting with her online. If only my kids are not around I would probably have more time to chat with her.

Blogger Event Must Haves

Here are some of tips I would have told myself before going to the event.

Bring your Electric Fan / Manual Fan / Anything to keep you cool

We have a small rechargeable fan at home. It is really handy but the battery does not last that long that is why I bought a manual fan that when you press the button the fan blades will turn. You have to keep pressing the button, could be a bit tiring but less tiring to hands compared to a regular fan and it is better than the rechargeable electric fan because it does not need to be recharged. Anyway, I am the type of person who sweats a lot. I checked the weather forecast and they said it will rain that is why I bought a cardigan with me instead of a fan. From now on despite the weather predictions, I will bring my fan with me.

Make Sure You Charge Your Devices or Better Bring a Power Bank

This is the reason why I wasn’t able to get my free food. I went outside the park to fetch my baby. They ate at Jollibee, because as you know kids, they get hungry easily. My phone was drained that is why I wasn’t able to contact Serene. Do not fret, I did not allowed my self to get hungry, while the program is still ongoing, I left the area where the program is ongoing and ate.  I felt that my glucose level is getting low, I started to get dizzy. I have a petite body, that is because my metabolism is very fast. I do not know if it is a gift or a curse. I have a hard time increasing my weight despite over eating however, I easily break out into sweats and seldom get thirsty. A hot room for normal people feels like hell to me.

Bring a Camera

I usually take a picture using my phone but when the sunset came, the quality of the pictures I took are bad. I wish I brought my digital camera with me.

I hope this would not be the last blogger event I would be attending. I already started stepping outside my comfort zone.

Unfortunately I can’t click on the link for the blogger event you went to, maybe it’s broken? You seemed distracted with the first event you went too, hope you made new friends aside from Super Momma. I understand it’s difficult when the kids are with you.

Anyway, I’ve been writing/blogging on and off for years now, but it’s only late last year that I’d decided to blog continuously. I haven’t been to any blogger events yet, and I’m actually excited to go to one – whether it’s sponsored or just a casual meetup among bloggers in the same field. 🙂

    • Thank you for pointing that one out. Fixed the link. It is really difficult with kids, I brought three and the word difficult is an understatement hahaha.

I’ve never been to a blogger event. It seems to be more popular in other countries. I don’t know how it would be for me, I am an Introvert and parties tend to be difficult for me. By the way, my husband has the uber fast metabolism too and can’t gain weight, It can be frustrating.

Congratulations on making it to your first blogger event. I could still recall the first one that we’ve attended. It was last year at the Blogapalooza and I found it really overwhelming. Thankfully, my boyfriend was with me who is also the co-blogger of our blog. We overcame our initial shyness together.

Anyway, I agree that the power bank and camera are essential to blogger events, but the fan, for me, is optional. This is because some venues are really cool that even a jacket may be needed instead. Also, there is a need for a pocket wifi or mobile data for posting on social media. Some activities may require internet connection or it can be used for event promotion.

Hope to meet you in some bloggers event and meet ups. I agree that power bank is so useful as well as pocket wifi or mobile data. Some organizers encourage attendees to use their social media platforms during events.

It looks like you had a lovely time. I am very happy that you made the time and decision to adventure into your first blogger event. I understand your reluctance because I’d probably feel the same. But in the end, it all went well ) and tips noted 🙂

  • Interesting! I have never been to a blogger event. I would like to go but I feel busy with working a full-time job, blogging, and traveling. I’m glad it was a fun experience for you. Good advice to bring the power bank and the fan!

Camera and your business card. It’s a great opportunity to build your networks.

  • I’ve never been to a blogging event though I have considered it; thank you so much for sharing your tips! I have so much admiration for your ability to face your fears by meeting other bloggers, was it a good experience, would you go to another blogging event?

  • So far so Sabine

Good advice to bring a power bank. It’s not good when you stand there without battery! I remember my first bloggers event. It’s always something I will remember 🙂
