Pedia Checkup: Chickenpox Vaccine

Summer is the time for beach vacations, out of towns, halo-halo, and also chickenpox. That is why I make sure my three girls get their shots.

Last Thursday we went to Wellpoint Medical Clinic located at the lower ground floor of SM Bacoor to meet our Pediatrician Dr. Phyllis Bernadette Kapuno. She has been our Pedia since we moved here at Cavite and I am very satisfied with how she takes care of my kids. She gives detailed explanations while examining the kids. Her concern for the three girls does not stop there. She is also generous in responding in my text messages whenever I have questions regarding the health of my children.

So it was Xyra’s schedule for Chickenpox which she handled very well. She did not cry, she just stuck her lower lips out. I wish I took a photo because she really looks cute whenever she does that. The vaccine costs 2,800php. What I like about the vaccines that my kids get from Dr. Kapuno is that they never had a fever nor lasting inflammation of the injection site. It just turned red, had a bit of inflammation which was gone after 30 minutes.

Getting vaccinations will not guarantee me 100% that my children will not get chickenpox, but it gives me peace of mind that when an outbreak occurs, they are protected. If ever they get the disease, the vaccines will reduce the risk of complications. For me, the benefits of vaccines hugely outweighs the risks.
